Floral Wreaths and Swags

Everyone loves to receive flowers regardless of the occasion, however, at times sending a traditional bouquet does not seem like enough. Floral wreaths and swags are an excellent option when a bouquet simply won’t do. Floral wreaths combine greenery and flowers in a circular arrangement perfect for hanging or table centerpieces. To add a touch of both nature and light, a nice idea is place a wreath around a candle that is covered by a hurricane. The hurricane allows you to light the candle without fear of burning your flowers, and as they are offered in a variety of colors and textures, the hurricane itself is a nice decorative piece. Miniature wreaths are also a wonderful idea for place settings at dinner parties or showers, which can then be taken home as a party favor. Holiday wreaths can be created to express the magic of the season.

Swags are lovely arrangements that focus more on greenery as the both the flower and stem are often included in the arrangement. A swag features a central point often indicated by a bow or ribbon, and the flowers or greens branch out from there. While they also make excellent wall hangings and centerpieces, swags have a special way of framing an area that makes them ideal for the top of a doorframe. Swags are excellent choices for holiday decorating as well, and Christmas designs typically feature the addition of pinecones and holly reminiscent of a scene from a Charles Dickens’ story.

Both swags and wreaths can be created from a variety of materials. Those made from fresh flowers will have the shortest lifespan, but will provide the freshest look and scent. Another option is to construct your arrangement from dried flowers. This is an especially nice idea if you are attempting to save flowers from a special occasion. For example, you don’t want to throw away the flowers you received on your birthday, but they are starting to wilt in their current arrangement. Simply hang those flowers to dry and then incorporate them into a wreath or swag. This creates an extra special arrangement because of the sentimental value of the flowers. If you wish to create a floral display that will last for years, using silk flowers is an excellent option. Although they do not have quite the same look as fresh flowers, their beauty is still undeniable and the look they create will never fade or wilt with the passing seasons.
